This year I will give away little carry-along books, credit card sized, 20 pages, softcover. Title: Marrakech New Book: UNLIMITED GRAIN 2011
After the interview - Frans Peter had with me - on the THIAPS magazine he asked me the second time this year if I would like to share my photographic work in his new book project UNLIMITED GRAIN 2011. I agreed with great pleasure and I am happy to see my photographs on four pages (pp 80/ 84). Helmut Newton: Polaroids Instant Newton Polaroids occupy a special place in the hearts of many photo enthusiasts who remember a time when "instant photography" meant one-of-a-kind prints that developed within minutes of clicking the shutter. What was once a crucial tool for photographers to test their shots before shooting on film has now become obsolete in the face of digital photography. Luckily for us, legendary photographer Helmut Newton saved his test Polaroids, allowing a privileged and rare chance to see the tests from a selection of his greatest shoots over a period of decades, including many from the TASCHEN titles SUMO, A Gun for Hire, and Work. Selected by his widow, June Newton, from over 300 photos featured at the 2011 exhibition "Helmut Newton Polaroids" at the Museum für Fotografie in Berlin, this collection captures the magic of Helmut Newton photo shoots as only Polaroids can.
Conversations With Photographers
Today the postman brought a wonderful little book directly from Esthampton. A book that every photographer should call his own. Jörg M. Colberg: Conversations With Photographers Vol. 1: Brian Ulrich, Hellen van Meene, Christopher Anderson Conversations With Photographers expands contents published on Conscientious Extended and brings it to a bookshelf near (next to) you! Volume 1, now available, presents in-depth interviews with Brian Ulrich, Hellen van Meene, and Christopher Anderson. Two of these interviews were previously published on Conscientious Extended: Brian Ulrich, 2006, and Christopher Anderson, 2010. The book includes new follow-up interviews for both photographers. In addition, there is a brand-new interview with Hellen van Meene about her new body of work. The Conversations With Photographers series is designed with portability in mind. It's a softcover, measuring 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm), 54 pages, and it costs $8.00. The series will be expanded with new additions regularly. The Online – Edition of the German nationwide weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT published today my “Peninsula Series” (German only): Porträts aus Spanien - Sommergesichter DIE ZEIT – Redaktion: „Oliver Weber ist nicht nur Fotograf, sondern auch Arzt. Format: Hardcover, 72 Seiten. Nummer 1 bis 20 sind ausverkauft. Nummer 21 bis 100 erhältlich für 39 Euro.“ © DIE ZEIT Link 1: Porträts aus Spanien
The Two Way Lens Interview: Joni Sternbach
Another interview has been added to the TWO WAY LENS - project. Please come and read a very interesting contribution by Joni Sternbach, which is a worthy continuation to the themes and wisdom already provided by: Magnum photographers Martin Parr and Alec Soth, Amy Stein, Andrew Phelps, Deborah Hamon, James Friedman, Jessica Todd Harper, Richard Renaldi, Ron Jude, David Hilliard, Susan Wides, Aline Smithson, Terry Weifenbach, Tim Hailand, Lori Nix, William Greiner, Zoe Strauss, Tema Stauffer, Tony Mendoza, Tierney Gearon, Scott Passfield, Russ Martin, Hiroshi Watanabe and Oliver Weber, ect. Joni Sternbach makes contemporary photography with an equipment and technic unchanged used since the late 1850's. Her cameras are old 19th century view cameras and always with her on the shoots is a portable darkroom. The process she uses is called "wet collodion" and dates back to the late 1850's. The plate has to stay wet during the entire procedure. It is a bit unpredictable and many times you get very beautiful and unexpected surprises. Even though Joni uses this very rare, slow and unique technic, her work and her subjects are totally contemporary. Please visit Joni's website for more info and more of her beautiful work to see and read the interview on Two Way Lens. Surfland - the book.Photographs by Joni Sternbach. photolucida, 2009. 80 pp., 52 illustrations, 10x8½ ISBN-13: 978-1934334065 About Two Way Lens: Two Way Lens is a project of interviews with international, contemporary photographers. Their answers to three simple questions about their career paths, presented in this project, should help, inspire and inform emerging photographers. The tips and advice provided will be of value to every young photographer. A new photographer/ interview is added to the project every month. The list of photographers already included is like a "whos who" of the contemporary fine art photography scene. As a reflection of this high value, Two Way Lens will be added to recommanded reading lists as a reference source for photography students at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Two Way Lens is published and edited by the German photographer, Michael Werner. Conductors of the Moving World by Brad Zellar In the autumn of 1972, a delegation of Japanese police officials visited the United States to study traffic control in several large cities, including New York, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. The unofficial photographer for the delegation was Eizo Ota, an inspector with the law enforcement department of the Yamanashi Prefecture, and he produced a record of the group’s travels that might best be described as forensic tourism. Using Inspector Ota’s snapshots as launching points, Brad Zellar plundered traffic manuals, haiku anthologies, the Watergate transcripts, and The Godfather for textual inspiration. The mysterious result is a Zen travelogue through 1972 America. From a collection of 60 C-Prints, a mix-and-match assortment of 17 will be hand-tipped into individual volumes, making each book a singular work of art. All proceeds go to Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami relief. Buy it here: Little Brown Mushroom Books Read also the review by Jörg Colberg on his blog Conscientious. Like Jörg said - Conductors of the Moving World clearly will be part of my “best of 2011” list.

I am very pleased to announce that the book Unlimited Grain Portraits by The International Analogue Photographic Society is published. After the interview - Frans Peter had with me - on the THIAPS magazine he asked me if I would like to share my photographic work in his new book project on analogue portrait photography. And I agreed with great pleasure. The participating photographers: Lauren E. Simonutti, Joshua Black Wilkins, Frans Peter Verheyen, Vittorio Colombi, Stephane Polteau, James Wigger, Steffo Weber, Maciek Lesniak, Urs Bernhard, Claudia Moroni, Carmen Palermo, Tanel Verk, Shannon Richardson, Alek Lindus, Tadas Kazakevicius, László Lejkó, Deborah Parkin, Ben Parks, Edoardo Pasero, Madlen Kirchner, Flavia Schaller, Tobias Feltus, Anna Chobotova, Milosz Wozaczynski, Tim Franco, Alexey Alexeev, Giancarlo Rado, Ocaña Fernández, Laurent Orseau, Vít Kocián, Daryan Dornelles, Piotr Biegaj, Kiarash Sadigh, Leo Tage-Hansen, Aleksandra Patova, Vladimir Longauer, Marina Romanova, Takala, Joshua Black Wilkins, Katsunori Yamaguchi, Rik Garrett, J.R. Ball, Philippe Mougin, Edward Olive, Christo Stankulov, Cole Emde, Jonas Mattsson, Saroyan Humphrey, Lambis Stratoudakis, Steve Korn, Caglar Tahiroglu, Yuichiro Miyano, Lars Daniel Terkelsen, Ben Rains, Thomas Krauss and Oliver Weber. Frans Peter Verheyen about the book: "Why a book on analogue portrait photography? More and more photographers are starting or returning to use film. There is a revival going on. On our website we can see a growing interest in this now called “vintage” phenomenon of analogue (analog) photography. We realize that analogue is not the right term and it should really be “photography that includes a chemical process”. However, this is a mouthful, so we stick with analogue. We run the THIAPS website now for about 3 years and slowly we grew tired of looking at brilliant photography on a computer screen. So let’s print it. It took us 6 months to create a short list of photographers who we wanted to ask for this project. We also came to the conclusion that one book would probably not be satisfactory, so we decided to go for a series of books. For some reason we thought that portraits would be the perfect theme for the first one. Other topics, like landscape’s, urban, street photography, nocturnal and more could follow. And we call it the UNLIMITED GRAIN series. So, now we have 120 pages with a wide variety of analogue photography from large format via 35mm to instant film. I hope this book will inspire you and that more people will take an interest working with film and chemicals. Enjoy!" Amazigh - Voyage dans le temps berbère

For the past 8 years photographer Livia Corona has documented the Enanitos Toreros, troupes of little people performing as bullfighters. She toured and lived with them throughout Mexico and migrant farming communities in the US, often traveling 12 to14 people to a van. The cars blared out a tailored audiotape advertisement: "This evening, in your town, the Enanitos Toreros have arrived with a show that will kill you. Oliver Weber - Photographs 2004-2007
